10 Easy Tips for a Happier, Healthier New Year

Every year, being healthier and happier is on the top of the list when it comes to New Year’s resolutions. Men, women, old, young, it doesn’t matter. Many people try to dive head first into the deep end, however, and end up throwing the whole thing away before the end of January!

Whether your goal for 2019 is going down a dress size to fit into that new Condici you’ve had your eye on or creating the kind of life that you love to live, small changes, not big ones, are the key. Here are 10 easy tips to get you started on your quest to a happier, healthier you.

Make 2019 the year for a happier, healthier, carefree you!

1. Keep plenty of fruits and vegetables in the house. We tend to snack on what’s accessible. Keeping a healthy amount of fruits and veggies in the house makes it easy not only to add them to meals, but also to reach for them when you’re looking for something to nibble.

2. Find a water bottle you like and keep it full and close at hand throughout the day.

3. All movement counts. If 30 minutes a day, 3-5 days a week is too much, scale it back. 10 minutes here, 10 minutes there adds up.

4. When you cook a well-balanced meal, make large portions. Leftovers are your friend when you’re trying to convince yourself not to eat out because you’re too tired to throw something together.

5. Keep healthy snacks in your pocketbook and car. Trust me, you’ll thank me for that one!

6. Sleep! Most of the population doesn’t get enough sleep. Making it a priority will lead to a happier, more well rested you.

7. Spend time with friends. The brain and the body don’t exist exclusively in their own little sphere. Spending time with friends and family recharges your happiness!

8. Learn to say no. How much happier would you be if your life had less stress in it? Cutting back on your obligations by saying no to the things you don’t want to do will leave you more time for the things that bring you joy. And speaking of stress…

9. Practice good stress management. It’s impossible to truly create a stress-free life. Sooner or later, the universe is going to throw a wrench in the works. The impact that has on your happiness is entirely up to you. Good stress management and stress relief in the form of yoga, meditation, hygge (creating a comforting environment), biofeedback, therapy and a good old-fashioned girl’s day out will increase your resiliency, which in turn makes life’s setbacks easier to handle.

10. Anything is better than nothing. It’s easy to bite off more than you can chew, then throw in the towel when it becomes obvious that it’s too much. Don’t quit! Step back, evaluate, then adjust. What’s working for you, and what has to go? Don’t give up on yourself!

And finally, the single most important thing for you to remember going into 2019: You do not need a you. You are wonderful, perfect and beautiful just as you are, and you deserve all the happiness that life has to offer. Remember that, embrace it, and have a wonderful New Year!

We look forward to seeing you soon here at No. 25 of Bourne End!
