What Fashions Featured at the Royal Wedding?

The entire world watched as Prince Harry and his bride said their vows, and friends and family from across the globe gathered to celebrate. We wish the happy couple all the best!

The newlyweds weren’t the only shining stars at the royal wedding. The ensembles sported by the couple’s diverse guest list, from the Duchess’s former “Suits” co-stars to media darlings to Britain’s royal elite, ranged from the classic to the outrageous, and all were fabulous.

Personally, I loved the story of how the Duchess’s friend Janina Gavankar came by her outfit for the day. Apparently, she and her stylist had reached out to various designers but no one was interested. In their absence, she explored the vintage collection of the Western Costume Company in North Hollywood, California, and made more headlines than she’d bargained for when she was dubbed “The Mysterious Lady in Orange”. I’ll bet there are a few designers today that are regretting not returning her calls!

Also, apparently the photographer bribed the pint-sized attendants with smarties to get the tired bridal party members to smile in the post-ceremony shots. As my grandfather used to do much the same, all I could do was salute. That, sir, is a trick that never goes out of style.

Let’s chat about another vintage style that was on display at the royal wedding: The Swing Skirt.

Even if you’re not familiar with the design use of the words “swing skirt”, you know what it is. It’s that soft, lush, swirling skirt you spun around in as a child, the one that made you believe you could fly if you could just twirl fast enough. The one you still cherish as an adult because it can be formal or casual while still leaving you enough range of motion to walk across the room without falling on your face!

(Or is that last one just me?) Add it to a coat, and you’ve got a perfect blend of style and comfort.

Who wore it best? I’ll let you decide – there were far too many to choose from! (Although I did love the green floral worn by Lady Kitty Spencer). I’d like to take this opportunity to highlight our own suppliers, who saw the trend coming and ensured that their styles allowed our Mothers of the Bride or Groom to stay on the very edge of fashion!
